Nic & Charlie

I’m so happy to finally share this wedding. Back in August, I took a drive with friend and second shooter, Colie Parks, out to St. Helens, OR. Through the winding roads, further and further away from civilization, we finally came upon the Reinholdt family farm where they grow beautiful fir trees. If it weren’t a warm summer day, I might have felt like I was in a Christmas wonderland. As we drove up to the house, we were greeted by the 7 dogs who were roaming freely throughout the property (one of my favorite details of the whole wedding!).

The wedding was a rustic chic styled wedding with great attention to detail. The couple hired so many great local vendors, from the flowers by Petalos, the food by Blackbird Catering, to the local blues band that played the reception. Even Charlie’s dresses (yes, she had 2 dresses!) were by local Portland designers Lena Medoyeff and Sarah Seven. But it was the personal details that made the wedding so much more special, like how Charlie’s brother was the officiant, and that Nic’s father designed and built the gazebo where everyone danced. All the details came together here on the farm where Charlie grew up, making it such a personal and intimate day to be a part of. At the end of the night, Nic, Charlie and several others all camped out on the edge of the tree line. A lovely end to their new beginning.

I also created a slideshow for the couple to the song “Home” by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, remixed by Andre Anjos of RAC.

EDIT: I briefly experimented with Facebook Comments on this blog. I’ve since decided I’d rather stick to the regular WordPress comments, but not until I got some very kind words from people on this post. Rather than make them disappear entirely, I took a screenshot so people can still read them now and know how much I appreciated them!

Levi & Shanna

I wasn’t expecting much from Iowa. I’ve spent enough time in the Midwest to know what it’s like. But I was pleasantly surprised by what I found there. It wasn’t all corn fields! I even saw some hills!

It was so incredible seeing two completely different families from different parts of the world, Iowa and Portugal, come together to celebrate the love of Levi and Shanna.

I just had to share a little preview from this past wedding in Ames, IA.

Have I mentioned how much I love film lately?

Engagement… Levi & Shanna

Nothing like an engagement session in the humid, Iowa summer, with the threat of rain looming overhead.

Bridal Fashion… Holly Stalder

As well as being a wedding photographer, I also love to shoot fashion. I had previously worked with local Portland designer Holly Stalder on a shoot featuring a dark, spring look back in March. It was then I discovered she’s also an incredible wedding dress designer. She was, of course, also a complete pleasure to work with, so I was determined to work with her again, but this time on a bridal fashion shoot.

Both Holly and I collaborated on this modern take of a Pacific Northwest bridal shoot. A lush Portland, Oregon vintage estate is the backdrop for our bridal shoot inspired by a natural approach to polished sophistication. Featured in this editorial, organic cotton “Anemone” wedding dress paired with hand dyed vintage lace capelet with rhinestone closure.

See more of Holly’s designs at her site, or stop by her shop in Portland, OR.

Engagement… Nic and Charlie

Nic and Charlie are about the coolest couple you could hope to work with. So excited to shoot their wedding in August!

3 years ago… André and Liz

3 years ago I was lucky enough to be in Portugal and shooting their wedding. Happy anniversary, André and Liz!

Alex & Amber

I’ve known Amber for almost 5 years now. When I heard she started dating a guy named Alex, he sounded nice, and Amber seemed pretty happy. But it wasn’t until a while later when I was finally able to meet him after moving to Nashville that I could tell there was something different about these two. It’s hard to put it into words, but the best way I know how is to say that they were meant to be together.

That same year, Amber referred her sister, Jayne, to me to shoot her wedding in Kentucky. Ever since then, Amber has always mentioned wanting me to shoot her wedding, whenever that day came. Well, it finally came.

I flew out to Nashville after having been gone for 8 months. It was a surreal experiencing seeing familiar places but in such a different context. I was reminded of how beautiful Nashville can be. I had so much fun seeing two friends get married. I could go on and on about their wedding, but I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Fine Art Wedding Photography

“It’s more than documentation. It’s more than candid imagery. It’s about integrating the personalities of the subjects with the setting to craft distinctive images that illustrate the unique appeal of each event.”

Jose Villa in his new book Fine Art Wedding Photography

I couldn’t have said it better myself, Jose. I’m starting to get excited about the coming wedding season. First one is in Nashville in less than a month!
